Background of the
New
Vision
School
Choti Zereen is a village with a population of more than 10,000. It is surrounded
by 14 villages with a population of about 20,000. All these villages
a re served by government primary schools, secondary schools and only
one Government high school and one degree college for girls.
The government
schools are congested and their standard of education is not good.
Two to three classes are conducted in one room because of lack of
space. The teachers are not trained and the rate of drop outs is
high. There are some private schools but their standard is very low
and their premises extremely small.
There are some
reasonably good schools in D.G.Khan city but they function on a commercial
basis with the result that their fees are too high and people from
low income groups cannot afford them. In any case girls find it
extremely difficult to commute to D.G.Khan by public
transport.
The main aim of
the school was to meet the the educational demands of the area and to
provide them with quality education at a subsidized, low cost. We
have entered the twenty first century but the rural educational
system in the south of
Punjab
is in a
deplorable state. Education for girls has been neglected for many
years with the result that few opportunities are available to them in
order to make their lives better and find means to get jobs and thus
enhance their contribution to the upbringing of their families.
In view of the
needs of the local area, Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari,
donated two and a half acres of prime land for the building of the
school. His Excellency the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan of
the U.A.E graciously donated a modern and spacious school building.
This building was completed in June 2000.
In January 2001
the New Vision school opened with financial aid from Sardar Farooq Leghari.
A trust was set up and Mrs. Awais Leghari was nominated as
member in charge of the New Vision School Project.
Mrs Awais Leghari initiated teachers
training courses and set up the school with 150 children the first
day. She headed the school on a voluntary basis and developed the
curriculum in line with the sensibilities and requirements of the
area. In 2002 a Principal was employed to head the school after a
training process. Currently the school has over 350 children and has
expanded till grade nine.
